Dementia Care Partnership (DCP) is a registered Newcastle based charity which provides local services for people with dementia of all ages, older people including people from the  black and minority ethnic communities with functional mental illness (depression, anxiety states, etc), as well as the carers

At DCP, our aim is to offer alternative services to residential care which are well integrated with the local community.   We therefore place great emphasis on the rights of people with dementia and other mental health problems to take their rightful place in society.

The services we provide include: home support, day activity centres (Benwell and Brunswick Village), supporting living houses based on partnership with social services and housing authorities, and residential short term breaks.

The DCP head office is based in a purpose built centre called the Bradbury Centre which incorporates day service, restaurant, coffee shop, fitness area, hairdressing, activity rooms, computer room, IT training, residential short term breaks, training and conference facilities.

DCP, formerly Dementia Care Initiative (DCI), was founded in 1993 by carers and former carers, with the support of health and social services, to develop services for people with dementia and their carers. The same carers became the Board of Trustees, ensuring DCP remains a truly Carer-led organisation. We are now the largest specialist dementia service provider in Newcastle.

Quality of life means a lot of things to a lot of people. At DCP we believe that three key factors are vital to enjoy a better quality of life and we address these through the services we provide. These are to have

  1. someone to love and be loved in return
  2. somewhere to live; a place we call our home
  3. something to do which caters for our interests and aspirations

We are not just a provider of services for people with dementia. Since 1995, at the request of carers of older people experiencing depression, anxiety states etc, we began providing services for this group also.

Our current services include:

  • Flexible home care service available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
  • Independent supported living houses
  • Day activity centres
  • Short break services
  • 24 hour companion/befriender scheme
  • Specialist services for younger people with dementia
  • Carer support group
  • Training and consultancy service
  • The Bradbury Centre – an innovative purpose-built new Centre incorporating facilities and services, influenced by clients and carer, which are: café/restaurant, hairdressing, health and fitness room, black and minority ethnic culture and multi faith room, information technology room,  short term breaks, training and conference facility.

Proposed new services include:

  • ‘Dial a solution’- information and advice helpline
  • Evening clubs for younger people with dementia
  • A social club for carers and the cared-for

At present, DCP provides services in Northumberland, Gateshead and North Tyneside.
