A Career in DCP

Dementia Care Partnership (DCP) seeks to be at the cutting edge of dementia care provision; we aim to be the premier provider in supporting people with dementia, to continue to maintain links with their family, friends and local community.

Our experience from working with people with dementia is that they do not want other people deciding what is best for them and that they have every right to lead normal lives as any other citizen. We have learned that the best approach is to provide services that are person-led which enables and encourages a person with dementia to take the lead in all aspects of their life.

People with dementia are often more likely to have a better quality of life and feeling of well being if they are enabled to be as much in charge of their own lives as possible. The skill of the support worker is in making this happen.

Every individual is unique, the person with dementia and their family make decisions and choices by expressing their lifestyle, hobbies, preferences and choices to preserve their identity.

Training is an integral part of staff development which seeks to harness and expand the potential of all staff in the interest of the client and DCP.

Staff development encompasses activities intended to foster learning and career development throughout the organisation to contribute to the objectives of DCP.

Support workers start their employment with DCP by attending a comprehensive induction and shadowing programme, where both legislative requirements and DCP’s unique philosophy and practices are covered. This aims to develop the awareness, knowledge and skills which enable the support worker to offer a consistent and professional service and work to DCP’s philosophy of taking a person-led and empowering approach at all times

Support workers have the opportunity to undertake NVQ equivalent qualifications and there is the potential for career development within the organisation. Many of our support workers have progressed to team leaders and services coordinators.
