DCP day services offers you the opportunity to join various clubs such as singing, dancing, gardening, computing, photography, watercolours to name just a few. At our day services we strive to offer our clients:
- Services that cater for our clients and their families so that they do not have to be separated if they want to be together.
- A sense of belonging, ownership and opportunities to form new friendships or emotional attachments where old ones have been lost.
- A practice based on strength model, which focuses on individuals’ abilities and not on illness or disabilities, and a firm belief that everyone has potential to contribute, retain or improve existing skills or learn new skills.
- Opportunities for social, leisure and life long learning in an inclusive environment thus promoting health and well being.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?
- People of all ages with dementia or anyone who is living with memory loss caused by any illness or disability such as acquired brain injury, Downs Syndrome, Huntington’s disease etc. Currently, the youngest person receiving our services is 40 years old.
- Older people who experience a ‘functional mental illness’ such as depression, anxiety state, etc.
- People from the black and minority ethnic communities, who experience any of the above or experience emotional or psychological distress caused by their personal situation such as racism, harassment, loneliness or isolation through being away from their homeland and not having a family to look after them.
- Carers and families of the above three groups
OPENING TIMES Shafto Centre is open to our clients Monday to Friday from 10 am - 4 pm. Bradbury Centre is open to our clients Monday to Sunday from 10 am - 4 pm.
At the request of clients and carers, evening clubs for younger people with dementia are planned.
FACILITIES Shafto Centre is rented from Anchor Housing and offers a comfortable environment for clients to come together. There are three rooms which cater for different leisure and learning activities at different times. Individuals have the option to join in these activities or spend a quiet time with their support workers if they want to. Shafto Centre has a capacity for 40 people per day.
Bradbury Centre is a new and purpose-built centre owned by DCP. The centre’s facilities were influenced by our clients and incorporates a restaurant, coffee shop, day activity rooms, gym, hairdressing and beauty as well as complementary therapy.
COOKING AND MEALS Both centres offer well balanced meals and cater for individual dietary needs.
They also offer a second kitchen for clients to take part in cooking clubs. This enables clients to retain skills as well as generate a small income from the sale of items baked such as cakes, biscuits, etc.
It also offers the option to assess someone’s cooking skills, by professionals, to ascertain whether they can manage to live on their own.
GARDEN We believe in the therapeutic value of gardening for those experiencing dementia and depression in particular. Each centre has a gardening club where clients who are interested in gardening can take part. Shafto Centre has a patio garden. DCP also has two allotment plots in the west end for clients to grow their own produce.
A new sensory garden is being designed for those attending the Bradbury Centre
GYM Exclusively for our clients and carers supervised by trained support workers
